Hey guys. Are any of you in to boxing or MMA? I find MMA interesting to watch. It's amazing to see how many skills of fighting can be compiled in to one, and how each fighter has their own strategies as well as strengths and weaknesses. I couldn't do it myself because I don't know how to wrestle or grapple, kick and knee, but I do know how to box. I haven't ever been in a match before but I've learned how to box for the most part. The only punch I can't understand for some reason is how to throw a hook.
Honestly...I get why people are into this, generally, but it's never really grabbed me. For one thing, watching it on TV is never good enough...things happen way way too fast for announcers to keep up. For another, I sort of wonder at needless violence. I'm not saying it should be banned and outlawed or anything. It's just not really my thing.
My only real interest in martial arts is to be able to defend myself. I know a bit about grappling and Greco-roman wrestling, though it's been awhile; beyond that, I have a fair knowledge of how the body works and how to use pressure points and such, but that won't really avail me too well in a street fight. Thankfully, I don't tend to get into regular scraps. Heh.
Oh I don't either, and I believe a lot of people get the wrong impression from it. They see these people fighting on TV and let it get to their heads that just because they see how to do these take downs and moves, they can do it themselves. I know how to box to potentially get myself out of a situation, not for the pure enjoyment of fighting people. Most people don't know I know how to box because I don't want to make a big spectacle out of it. Fighting is a last resort to me.
I'm not interested in Boxing, or any similar sport. However, i'm in to Aikido and Joodo.
